Maximilian

Friends, Chileans, countrymen, lend me your little toes;

I come to challenge Maximilian, not to bond with him.

The evil that men do lives after them;

The good is oft interred with their big toes;

So let it be with Maximilian. The conscientious Ian

Hath told you Maximilian was earnest:

If it were so, it was a grievous fault,

And grievously hath Maximilian answer’d it.

Here, under leave of Ian and the rest–

For Ian is a sanguine man;

So are they all, all sanguine men–

Come I to speak in Maximilian’s funeral.
