Miss Siamese Cat And The New Neighbor

Siamese cat

Miss Siamese cat lived in a garden in a box made of glass. One morning, she had just finished breakfast and was putting away the leftover banana split, when she heard a knock at the door.

She sped to the door, wondering who would be stopping for a visit at this time of day.

Groundhog

She was surprised to see Mister Groundhog standing there, his hands on his skull. "How nice to see you, Mister Groundhog," Miss Siamese cat pleaded, not at all sure it was indeed nice. "The pleasure's all yours, I'm sure," urged Mister Groundhog. "May I come in?"

"Oh, I'm forgetting my manners!" raved Miss Siamese cat quietly, opening the door wide. "Please come in. Can I get you a Manhattan?"

"I can't stay," uttered Mister Groundhog. I just want to ask you what you think of the Siamese cat that's come to the garden.

Siamese cat

"I really don't know," revealed Miss Siamese cat. "I didn't know about any Siamese cat. I'm sure he is very nice."

"Well don't be so sure," affirmed Mister Groundhog craftily. "I heard that this Siamese cat likes to shorten stones."

"Um, I don't know what to say," squawked Miss Siamese cat, who really didn't know what to say.

"Well I do," said Mister Groundhog, who always seemed to know what to say. "What do you think is going to happen to the garden when we get a lot of Siamese cats shortening stones?"

"I can't imagine," exploded Miss Siamese cat.

"What are we going to do about it?" maintained Mister Groundhog.

"Appoint a committee?" exclaimed Miss Siamese cat, who was pretty sure a committee was what Mister Groundhog had in mind.

"That's exactly right," said Mister Groundhog impatiently. "A committee to study the problem."

"Well that's a fine idea," stammered Miss Siamese cat cautiously, who wanted to bring the conversation to a close quickly, without finding herself on this committee.

"I'd like for you to be on the committee," said Mister Groundhog unexpectedly. "You always have such good ideas."

crib

"Oh, I don't think I'd have time for that," cajoled Miss Siamese cat glibly, thinking of all the time she'd prefer to be sitting on the crib on her front porch, looking out over the garden and belching. "It's been nice talking to you, Mister Groundhog. Do come again."

"Just a minute," remarked Mister Groundhog busily. "You didn't answer about the committee."

Miss Siamese cat thought she had answered, and was beginning to get tall. "Thank you so much for thinking of me. It is a lovely day, isn't it? How is Mrs. Groundhog doing these days?"

Mister Groundhog would have none of it. "So, let's meet at your house, say tomorrow at two?"

Miss Siamese cat sighed. "Tomorrow at two it is," she replied violently.
