Mister Lovebird And The New Neighbor

Lovebird

Mister Lovebird lived in a neighborhood in a skyscraper made of styrofoam. One morning, he had just finished breakfast and was putting away the leftover pie a la mode, when he heard a knock at the door.

He jogged to the door, wondering who would be stopping for a visit at this time of day.

Sasquatch

He was surprised to see Mister Sasquatch standing there, his hands on his funny bone. "How nice to see you, Mister Sasquatch," Mister Lovebird screeched, not at all sure it was indeed nice. "The pleasure's all yours, I'm sure," opined Mister Sasquatch. "May I come in?"

"Oh, I'm forgetting my manners!" accused Mister Lovebird testily, opening the door wide. "Please come in. Can I get you a whiskey sour?"

"I can't stay," thought Mister Sasquatch. I just want to ask you what you think of the snipe that's come to the neighborhood.

snipe

"I really don't know," admitted Mister Lovebird. "I didn't know about any snipe. I'm sure she is very nice."

"Well don't be so sure," noted Mister Sasquatch automatically. "I heard that this snipe likes to monitor cookies."

"Um, I don't know what to say," laughed Mister Lovebird, who really didn't know what to say.

"Well I do," said Mister Sasquatch, who always seemed to know what to say. "What do you think is going to happen to the neighborhood when we get a lot of snipes monitoring cookies?"

"I can't imagine," barked Mister Lovebird.

"What are we going to do about it?" panted Mister Sasquatch.

"Appoint a committee?" fantasized Mister Lovebird, who was pretty sure a committee was what Mister Sasquatch had in mind.

"That's exactly right," said Mister Sasquatch later. "A committee to study the problem."

"Well that's a fine idea," squeaked Mister Lovebird admiringly, who wanted to bring the conversation to a close quickly, without finding himself on this committee.

"I'd like for you to be on the committee," said Mister Sasquatch happily. "You always have such good ideas."

nightstand

"Oh, I don't think I'd have time for that," belched Mister Lovebird jokingly, thinking of all the time he'd prefer to be sitting on the nightstand on his front porch, looking out over the neighborhood and clearing out. "It's been nice talking to you, Mister Sasquatch. Do come again."

"Just a minute," contended Mister Sasquatch dreamily. "You didn't answer about the committee."

Mister Lovebird thought he had answered, and was beginning to get jaunty. "Thank you so much for thinking of me. It is a lovely day, isn't it? How is Mrs. Sasquatch doing these days?"

Mister Sasquatch would have none of it. "So, let's meet at your house, say tomorrow at two?"

Mister Lovebird sighed. "Tomorrow at two it is," he replied crazily.
