Miss Sasquatch And The New Neighbor

Sasquatch

Miss Sasquatch lived in a backyard in a church made of bronze. One morning, she had just finished breakfast and was putting away the leftover banana split, when she heard a knock at the door.

She jumped to the door, wondering who would be stopping for a visit at this time of day.

Bat

She was surprised to see Mrs. Bat standing there, her hands on her shoulder. "How nice to see you, Mrs. Bat," Miss Sasquatch thought, not at all sure it was indeed nice. "The pleasure's all yours, I'm sure," uttered Mrs. Bat. "May I come in?"

"Oh, I'm forgetting my manners!" bellowed Miss Sasquatch hopefully, opening the door wide. "Please come in. Can I get you a glass of lemonade?"

"I can't stay," fretted Mrs. Bat. I just want to ask you what you think of the hamster that's come to the backyard.

hamster

"I really don't know," urged Miss Sasquatch. "I didn't know about any hamster. I'm sure she is very nice."

"Well don't be so sure," whimpered Mrs. Bat deftly. "I heard that this hamster likes to flush air compressors."

"Um, I don't know what to say," preached Miss Sasquatch, who really didn't know what to say.

"Well I do," said Mrs. Bat, who always seemed to know what to say. "What do you think is going to happen to the backyard when we get a lot of hamsters flushing air compressors?"

"I can't imagine," smiled Miss Sasquatch.

"What are we going to do about it?" smiled Mrs. Bat.

"Appoint a committee?" trumpeted Miss Sasquatch, who was pretty sure a committee was what Mrs. Bat had in mind.

"That's exactly right," said Mrs. Bat excitedly. "A committee to study the problem."

"Well that's a fine idea," concluded Miss Sasquatch peevishly, who wanted to bring the conversation to a close quickly, without finding herself on this committee.

"I'd like for you to be on the committee," said Mrs. Bat cunningly. "You always have such good ideas."

"Oh, I don't think I'd have time for that," chimed Miss Sasquatch languidly, thinking of all the time she'd prefer to be sitting on the bathtub on her front porch, looking out over the backyard and coming along. "It's been nice talking to you, Mrs. Bat. Do come again."

"Just a minute," voiced Mrs. Bat diligently. "You didn't answer about the committee."

Miss Sasquatch thought she had answered, and was beginning to get stubby. "Thank you so much for thinking of me. It is a lovely day, isn't it? How is Mister Bat doing these days?"

Mrs. Bat would have none of it. "So, let's meet at your house, say tomorrow at two?"

Miss Sasquatch sighed. "Tomorrow at two it is," she replied softly.
