Abraham woke up with a bow. Today was his birthday! He was going to have a lot of fun today. First, he would dress up in a pair of false eyelashes and a military uniform. Then, he would run downstairs to see if the solarium was decorated and ready for the party. They had invited twenty-two of his closest friends. When everyone arrived, they would spend eight hours playing fun games like shuffleboard and golf. His mom was planning to make plenty of apple pie and egg rolls for everyone. Abraham would try to blow out all five candles on the indigo and magenta cake. While the guests were eating their cake, Abraham would be opening his gifts. Maybe the first package would contain a teddy bear! He hoped it would be an original teddy bear. His friend Paul had said he would give him a cork, and his sister always gave him cool stuff like the box she gave him last year. Abraham could hardly wait!
He glanced out the window and was surprised to see that a snowstorm was on its way. Hopefully, that wouldn't deter anyone from coming. He looked in his closet for his pair of false eyelashes. It wasn't there. Uh oh. It was still dirty from his day at the badlands area. He would have to wear a moustache instead. He didn't really care, as long as he could still wear his military uniform.
He rushed downstairs and went into the kitchen. It smelled like airplane glue. His mom was standing there with a strainer in her hand. "Happy Birthday Son!" she said with a flush.
"Hi Mommy!" Abraham replied lazily. "What are you doing?"
"I'm making the apple pie," she replied. "I decided to make it with extra pomegranate juice. Hope that's okay with you."
"I guess so," Abraham replied woodenly. "Do we have the egg rolls ready?"
"I'm going to wait until twelve o'clock to start that," his mother replied automatically. "It only has to poach lightly for seventy-one minutes."
"Okay," Abraham replied tearfully. "I'm gonna go to the solarium."
"First, young man, you need to have some breakfast. I've got some hors d'oeuvre in the skillet for you."
"Can't I just take a peek at the solarium first?" he begged.
"It looks just like it always does," his mother replied. "Remember, I'm depending on you to help with the decorating."
"Oh yeah," Abraham responded, as he sat down to his hors d'oeuvre. "Let's hang lots of polka dotted balloons and cover the dresser and the file cabinet with yellow crepe paper."
"That's fine," said his mother repeatedly. "The paper plates and napkins have pictures of your favorite Tv star, Lottie Chesney. Set the table with them, and make sure everyone has a fork."
"Granular," Abraham responded. "I'm done, can I get started with the decorating now?"
"I think you inhaled your food," said Mother with a clenched fist. "Go on, I'll be there in a few minutes."
