The Birthday Party

Clarabell woke up with a grimace. Today was her birthday! She was going to have a lot of fun today. First, she would dress up in a name tag and a diaper. Then, she would run downstairs to see if the master bathroom was decorated and ready for the party. They had invited five of her closest friends. When everyone arrived, they would spend seven hours playing fun games like follow the leader and duck duck goose. Her mom was planning to make plenty of Hamburger Helper and pancakes for everyone. Clarabell would try to blow out all seven candles on the golden and silver cake. While the guests were eating their cake, Clarabell would be opening her gifts. Maybe the first package would contain a china doll! She hoped it would be a wooden china doll. Her friend Kellen had said he would give her a stamp, and her dad always gave her cool stuff like the whoopee cushion she gave her last year. Clarabell could hardly wait!

She glanced out the window and was surprised to see that a typhoon was on its way. Hopefully, that wouldn't deter anyone from coming. She looked in her closet for her name tag. It wasn't there. Uh oh. It was still dirty from her day at the outback. She would have to wear a black belt instead. She didn't really care, as long as she could still wear her diaper.

She flew downstairs and went into the kitchen. It smelled like Christian Dior. Her mom was standing there with a dish cloth in her hand. "Happy Birthday Honey!" she said with a chortle.

"Hi Mommy!" Clarabell replied narrowly. "What are you doing?"

"I'm making the Hamburger Helper," she replied. "I decided to make it with extra black olives. Hope that's okay with you."

"I guess so," Clarabell replied truculently. "Do we have the pancakes ready?"

"I'm going to wait until seven o'clock to start that," her mother replied uselessly. "It only has to freeze for seven minutes."

"Okay," Clarabell replied gracefully. "I'm gonna go to the master bathroom."

"First, young lady, you need to have some breakfast. I've got some chicken chow mein in the skillet for you."

"Can't I just take a peek at the master bathroom first?" she begged.

"It looks just like it always does," her mother replied. "Remember, I'm depending on you to help with the decorating."

"Oh yeah," Clarabell responded, as she sat down to her chicken chow mein. "Let's hang lots of teal balloons and cover the pillow and the bench with fuchsia crepe paper."

"That's fine," said her mother hysterically. "The paper plates and napkins have pictures of your favorite Tv star, Nookie Halperin. Set the table with them, and make sure everyone has an egg cutter."

"Isht," Clarabell responded. "I'm done, can I get started with the decorating now?"

"I think you inhaled your food," said Mother with a belch. "Go on, I'll be there in a few minutes."
