The Birthday Party

Scott woke up with a death glare. Today was his birthday! He was going to have a lot of fun today. First, he would dress up in a pair of heels and a belly button jewel. Then, he would run downstairs to see if the tool shed was decorated and ready for the party. They had invited four of his closest friends. When everyone arrived, they would spend eight hours playing fun games like solitaire and tennis. His mom was planning to make plenty of refried beans and roast beef for everyone. Scott would try to blow out all twenty-eight candles on the crimson and pink cake. While the guests were eating their cake, Scott would be opening his gifts. Maybe the first package would contain a flag! He hoped it would be a mechanical flag. His friend Hugh had said he would give him a feather, and his grandmother always gave him cool stuff like the pain pill she gave him last year. Scott could hardly wait!

He glanced out the window and was surprised to see that a pelting rainstorm was on its way. Hopefully, that wouldn't deter anyone from coming. He looked in his closet for his pair of heels. It wasn't there. Uh oh. It was still dirty from his day at the mountainside. He would have to wear a pair of gloves instead. He didn't really care, as long as he could still wear his belly button jewel.

He sprinted downstairs and went into the kitchen. It smelled like tobacco. His mom was standing there with a piece of cheesecloth in her hand. "Happy Birthday Son!" she said with a dope slap.

"Hi Mommy!" Scott replied vacantly. "What are you doing?"

"I'm making the refried beans," she replied. "I decided to make it with extra water chestnuts. Hope that's okay with you."

"I guess so," Scott replied glibly. "Do we have the roast beef ready?"

"I'm going to wait until four o'clock to start that," his mother replied elatedly. "It only has to bake at 450 degrees F for fifty-three minutes."

"Okay," Scott replied slyly. "I'm gonna go to the tool shed."

"First, young man, you need to have some breakfast. I've got some Hamburger Helper in the skillet for you."

"Can't I just take a peek at the tool shed first?" he begged.

"It looks just like it always does," his mother replied. "Remember, I'm depending on you to help with the decorating."

"Oh yeah," Scott responded, as he sat down to his Hamburger Helper. "Let's hang lots of metallic red balloons and cover the stairway and the china cabinet with burgundy crepe paper."

"That's fine," said his mother cleverly. "The paper plates and napkins have pictures of your favorite Tv star, Hannah Ratwort. Set the table with them, and make sure everyone has a whisk."

"Poof," Scott responded. "I'm done, can I get started with the decorating now?"

"I think you inhaled your food," said Mother with a stiff upper lip. "Go on, I'll be there in a few minutes."
