Miss Rabbit And The New Neighbor

Rabbit

Miss Rabbit lived in a field in an igloo made of styrofoam. One morning, she had just finished breakfast and was putting away the leftover pumpkin pie, when she heard a knock at the door.

She trotted to the door, wondering who would be stopping for a visit at this time of day.

Ring-tailed lemur

She was surprised to see Mister Ring-tailed lemur standing there, his hands on his buttocks. "How nice to see you, Mister Ring-tailed lemur," Miss Rabbit revealed, not at all sure it was indeed nice. "The pleasure's all yours, I'm sure," began Mister Ring-tailed lemur. "May I come in?"

"Oh, I'm forgetting my manners!" suggested Miss Rabbit firmly, opening the door wide. "Please come in. Can I get you a can of Ensure?"

"I can't stay," declared Mister Ring-tailed lemur. I just want to ask you what you think of the flamingo that's come to the field.

flamingo

"I really don't know," proposed Miss Rabbit. "I didn't know about any flamingo. I'm sure he is very nice."

"Well don't be so sure," articulated Mister Ring-tailed lemur joyously. "I heard that this flamingo likes to drag sacks."

"Um, I don't know what to say," interpreted Miss Rabbit, who really didn't know what to say.

"Well I do," said Mister Ring-tailed lemur, who always seemed to know what to say. "What do you think is going to happen to the field when we get a lot of flamingoes dragging sacks?"

"I can't imagine," alleged Miss Rabbit.

"What are we going to do about it?" spewed Mister Ring-tailed lemur.

"Appoint a committee?" imitated Miss Rabbit, who was pretty sure a committee was what Mister Ring-tailed lemur had in mind.

"That's exactly right," said Mister Ring-tailed lemur thoughtfully. "A committee to study the problem."

"Well that's a fine idea," lamented Miss Rabbit hopefully, who wanted to bring the conversation to a close quickly, without finding herself on this committee.

"I'd like for you to be on the committee," said Mister Ring-tailed lemur sympathetically. "You always have such good ideas."

piano

"Oh, I don't think I'd have time for that," cajoled Miss Rabbit wearily, thinking of all the time she'd prefer to be sitting on the piano on her front porch, looking out over the field and staring. "It's been nice talking to you, Mister Ring-tailed lemur. Do come again."

"Just a minute," simpered Mister Ring-tailed lemur courteously. "You didn't answer about the committee."

Miss Rabbit thought she had answered, and was beginning to get drowsy. "Thank you so much for thinking of me. It is a lovely day, isn't it? How is Mrs. Ring-tailed lemur doing these days?"

Mister Ring-tailed lemur would have none of it. "So, let's meet at your house, say tomorrow at two?"

Miss Rabbit sighed. "Tomorrow at two it is," she replied menacingly.
