Miss Wolf And The New Neighbor

Wolf

Miss Wolf lived in a dumpster in a wikiup made of sandstone. One morning, she had just finished breakfast and was putting away the leftover Cheerios, when she heard a knock at the door.

She bounced to the door, wondering who would be stopping for a visit at this time of day.

Tsetse fly

She was surprised to see Mister Tsetse fly standing there, his hands on his stomach. "How nice to see you, Mister Tsetse fly," Miss Wolf barked, not at all sure it was indeed nice. "The pleasure's all yours, I'm sure," vowed Mister Tsetse fly. "May I come in?"

"Oh, I'm forgetting my manners!" belched Miss Wolf obediently, opening the door wide. "Please come in. Can I get you a Mudslide?"

"I can't stay," recited Mister Tsetse fly. I just want to ask you what you think of the hawk that's come to the dumpster.

hawk

"I really don't know," yelled Miss Wolf. "I didn't know about any hawk. I'm sure he is very nice."

"Well don't be so sure," spat Mister Tsetse fly deliberately. "I heard that this hawk likes to describe peaches."

"Um, I don't know what to say," judged Miss Wolf, who really didn't know what to say.

"Well I do," said Mister Tsetse fly, who always seemed to know what to say. "What do you think is going to happen to the dumpster when we get a lot of hawks describing peaches?"

"I can't imagine," howled Miss Wolf.

"What are we going to do about it?" chanted Mister Tsetse fly.

"Appoint a committee?" blurted Miss Wolf, who was pretty sure a committee was what Mister Tsetse fly had in mind.

"That's exactly right," said Mister Tsetse fly dubiously. "A committee to study the problem."

"Well that's a fine idea," yelped Miss Wolf frantically, who wanted to bring the conversation to a close quickly, without finding herself on this committee.

"I'd like for you to be on the committee," said Mister Tsetse fly numbly. "You always have such good ideas."

dishwasher

"Oh, I don't think I'd have time for that," responded Miss Wolf awkwardly, thinking of all the time she'd prefer to be sitting on the dishwasher on her front porch, looking out over the dumpster and puckering. "It's been nice talking to you, Mister Tsetse fly. Do come again."

"Just a minute," blustered Mister Tsetse fly pityingly. "You didn't answer about the committee."

Miss Wolf thought she had answered, and was beginning to get radiant. "Thank you so much for thinking of me. It is a lovely day, isn't it? How is Mrs. Tsetse fly doing these days?"

Mister Tsetse fly would have none of it. "So, let's meet at your house, say tomorrow at two?"

Miss Wolf sighed. "Tomorrow at two it is," she replied woefully.
