Mister Horse And The New Neighbor

Horse

Mister Horse lived on a wasteland in a condominium made of twigs. One morning, he had just finished breakfast and was putting away the leftover lobster bisque, when he heard a knock at the door.

He scooted to the door, wondering who would be stopping for a visit at this time of day.

Rabbit

He was surprised to see Mrs. Rabbit standing there, her hands on her spine. "How nice to see you, Mrs. Rabbit," Mister Horse ranted, not at all sure it was indeed nice. "The pleasure's all yours, I'm sure," hummed Mrs. Rabbit. "May I come in?"

"Oh, I'm forgetting my manners!" maintained Mister Horse quickly, opening the door wide. "Please come in. Can I get you a bottle of Gatorade?"

"I can't stay," fumed Mrs. Rabbit. I just want to ask you what you think of the lamb that's come to the wasteland.

lamb

"I really don't know," tittered Mister Horse. "I didn't know about any lamb. I'm sure she is very nice."

"Well don't be so sure," continued Mrs. Rabbit effortlessly. "I heard that this lamb likes to pick flowerpots."

"Um, I don't know what to say," sniveled Mister Horse, who really didn't know what to say.

"Well I do," said Mrs. Rabbit, who always seemed to know what to say. "What do you think is going to happen to the wasteland when we get a lot of lambs picking flowerpots?"

"I can't imagine," interpreted Mister Horse.

"What are we going to do about it?" suggested Mrs. Rabbit.

"Appoint a committee?" intimated Mister Horse, who was pretty sure a committee was what Mrs. Rabbit had in mind.

"That's exactly right," said Mrs. Rabbit slowly. "A committee to study the problem."

"Well that's a fine idea," gasped Mister Horse suddenly, who wanted to bring the conversation to a close quickly, without finding himself on this committee.

"I'd like for you to be on the committee," said Mrs. Rabbit mysteriously. "You always have such good ideas."

futon

"Oh, I don't think I'd have time for that," reacted Mister Horse furiously, thinking of all the time he'd prefer to be sitting on the futon on his front porch, looking out over the wasteland and wailing. "It's been nice talking to you, Mrs. Rabbit. Do come again."

"Just a minute," recited Mrs. Rabbit truculently. "You didn't answer about the committee."

Mister Horse thought he had answered, and was beginning to get dowdy. "Thank you so much for thinking of me. It is a lovely day, isn't it? How is Mister Rabbit doing these days?"

Mrs. Rabbit would have none of it. "So, let's meet at your house, say tomorrow at two?"

Mister Horse sighed. "Tomorrow at two it is," he replied shyly.
