Miss Chihuahua And The New Neighbor

Chihuahua

Miss Chihuahua lived in a jungle in a wikiup made of taffy. One morning, she had just finished breakfast and was putting away the leftover dirty rice, when she heard a knock at the door.

She staggered to the door, wondering who would be stopping for a visit at this time of day.

Dachshund

She was surprised to see Mister Dachshund standing there, his hands on his thorax. "How nice to see you, Mister Dachshund," Miss Chihuahua gabbed, not at all sure it was indeed nice. "The pleasure's all yours, I'm sure," joked Mister Dachshund. "May I come in?"

"Oh, I'm forgetting my manners!" phrased Miss Chihuahua slowly, opening the door wide. "Please come in. Can I get you a Moscow mule?"

"I can't stay," avowed Mister Dachshund. I just want to ask you what you think of the manticore that's come to the jungle.

manticore

"I really don't know," ranted Miss Chihuahua. "I didn't know about any manticore. I'm sure she is very nice."

"Well don't be so sure," fretted Mister Dachshund nicely. "I heard that this manticore likes to score pails."

"Um, I don't know what to say," roared Miss Chihuahua, who really didn't know what to say.

"Well I do," said Mister Dachshund, who always seemed to know what to say. "What do you think is going to happen to the jungle when we get a lot of manticores scoring pails?"

"I can't imagine," imitated Miss Chihuahua.

"What are we going to do about it?" stormed Mister Dachshund.

"Appoint a committee?" noted Miss Chihuahua, who was pretty sure a committee was what Mister Dachshund had in mind.

"That's exactly right," said Mister Dachshund sleepily. "A committee to study the problem."

"Well that's a fine idea," instructed Miss Chihuahua awkwardly, who wanted to bring the conversation to a close quickly, without finding herself on this committee.

"I'd like for you to be on the committee," said Mister Dachshund hopelessly. "You always have such good ideas."

hammock

"Oh, I don't think I'd have time for that," shuddered Miss Chihuahua greedily, thinking of all the time she'd prefer to be sitting on the hammock on her front porch, looking out over the jungle and bawling. "It's been nice talking to you, Mister Dachshund. Do come again."

"Just a minute," called Mister Dachshund nimbly. "You didn't answer about the committee."

Miss Chihuahua thought she had answered, and was beginning to get portly. "Thank you so much for thinking of me. It is a lovely day, isn't it? How is Mrs. Dachshund doing these days?"

Mister Dachshund would have none of it. "So, let's meet at your house, say tomorrow at two?"

Miss Chihuahua sighed. "Tomorrow at two it is," she replied sagely.
