The City of Vancouver

A Dome Building The Airporter Shuttle gave us a forty minute ride and our first chance to see the city. Vancouver is a dynamic, vibrant city. It was clean, green, and very beautiful, at least in many places. Perhaps it was not as clean as the girls had been led to expect, but they've been spoiled by Lincoln, and haven't really visited big cities a lot. Lots of construction. Lots of tall buildings. Busses and trolleys. People.
Here's our hotel, the Hyatt. We were on the 16th floor. The Hyatt
Here's the scene in our room, every time Wanda returned from her conference sessions. We swore we weren't spending 100% of our time lying around. In fact, we had generally just returned from some excursion, so that we were ready to meet Mom. Hotel Scene
Having Harry More about the hotel scene. We were excited when we realized that the fifth Harry Potter book was to be released while we were in Canada. Why? The U.S. editions of the books have been "Americanized", so that we ignorant Americans aren't confused by the spelling of "colour", or by quaint British expressions. It goes beyond that, though, to the extent of renaming one of the books, from "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" to "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone." Go figure. Borders on Bowdlerizing.
Anyway, the girls in particular were delighted and excited at the prospect of buying the books in Canada. We even waited in line at midnight, in order to be among the first to get the new one. Elizabeth got the whole set of five books.

They're actually Canadian editions, so it's unclear whether they have been "Canadianized", but as far as we can tell, they adhere to the British. Canada requires them to be printed on recycled paper, too.
