Dining in Vancouver

Fortune King restaurant The dining in Vancouver was fabulous. Upon our arrival, we were rather hungry, having had only airline peanuts since breakfast. So, after a brief rest and clean- up time in the hotel, we went out to find food.

A block from the hotel, we ran in to Fortune King, and, being too hungry to care whether it was a good place or not, went in.

Here's a view from our table in Fortune King. Many restaurants downtown are on the second floor or in the basement, to make room for other types of shops on street level.

We ordered the dinner for four. You get an idea of how well we ate from this meal: Hot and sour seafood soup (best ever). Deep-fried stuffed crab shells, breaded with coconut mixture. Ginger chicken in a fried woven taro root basket/nest. Lightly stir-fried vegetables. Fried cod pieces. Fried rice. Molded mango dessert with a bit of cream (soy milk?) poured over it.
Sushi We had Japanese food one day. The women had to try the sushi, while I had udon noodle soup.
Another night, Wanda and I left the girls to their own devices while we went with a group of indexers to an Italian restaurant. Cafe de Medici

We ate informally on occasion, too. The food court in Granville mall, the steamed burrito place, and the bread shop, although fast-food joints, were also good culinary experiences.

There really does appear to be a Starbuck's on every corner. We laughed approvingly when we spotted a Moonpenny's. Sadly for Sallie, it seems that in the past year, she overindulged in coffee and developed a sensitivity to caffeine. Coffee doesn't really interest the rest of us.
